A Familiar Wabash Address Starts a New Chapter as Martini Lounge |
The former M Lounge space returns with a cocktail-led identity under Israel Idonije’s Pangea Restaurant Group. |

A South Loop address with a history of bringing people together is pouring again. Martini Lounge has opened at 1520 S. Wabash Avenue, giving the former M Lounge space a new chapter under former Chicago Bear Israel Idonije’s Pangea Restaurant Group. For longtime neighbors, the address carries more meaning than a pin on a map. A familiar room can hold years of celebrations, conversations and nights out. A change of operator and concept raises a natural question: what will feel familiar, and what will be different when people return?
A cocktail lounge, rather than a dinner reservationEater Chicago’s recent openings guide describes Martini Lounge as a low-lit, intimate bar with a menu organized around classic and disco martinis. It also makes a useful distinction for anyone planning a whole evening: there is no kitchen, although snacks are offered. That means it is better to think of the visit as a cocktail stop and make separate dinner plans if you want a full meal. The specific drinks and snack selection can change, so consult the current menu before choosing the spot for your group. A neighborhood connectionHyperlocal Loop’s September report says Idonije took over the former lounge from longtime operators Reginald and MaryAnn Marsh. The report also describes plans to welcome former M Lounge DJs for Friday sets and develop an events calendar. Those plans should not be treated as a guarantee about a particular night. If music or a specific gathering is the reason you are going, check directly with the venue. A familiar name on an old flyer is not the same as a confirmed event on the current calendar. The larger neighborhood story is the operator’s continuing local presence. Pangea’s own locations page includes Martini Lounge alongside Buttercup and The Staley. The concepts serve different occasions: coffee or an aperitivo, a sports-bar visit, and now a later cocktail gathering. What to check before you leave homeThe official Martini Lounge website currently says seating is walk-in only, with no reservations. It lists Thursday through Sunday service from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., including an R&B Thursday designation. Check the current schedule and entry details before arranging a group visit. For residents, the test will be everyday usefulness. Does the room feel welcoming when friends stop by after dinner? Is there a night that fits your preferred music and pace? Those answers come from actual visits, and this opening report does not pretend to provide a firsthand review. Join the conversation: Do you have a favorite memory of M Lounge?
